Book Description – Programming in Objective-C 2.0
Programming in Objective-C 2.0 – It gives a novice programmer a full, step-by-step introduction to Objective-C, the principal programming language for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac OS X platforms. The book assumes no prior knowledge of C or object-oriented programming languages, and it contains numerous detailed, practical examples of how to use Objective-C in everyday iPhone/iPad or Mac OS X programming tasks.
Objective-C is a powerful yet simple object-oriented programming language based on the C programming language that is widely available not only on OS X and the iPhone/iPad platform, but also on many other operating systems that support the GCC compiler, such as Linux, Unix, and Windows.
This book’s second edition covers the most recent version of the language, Objective-C 2.0, in detail. It also demonstrates how to leverage the iPhone SDK to create apps for the iPhone/iPad platform, as well as how to use the Foundation framework’s large built-in library of classes.
This book spends half of its time discussing Objective-C and the other half discussing Apple’s Foundation and Cocoa frameworks. The chapters are well-organized, and the concepts are well-explained, so you’ll have a firm grasp of the language. Even if you have no programming knowledge, it’s a simple read. Although the book does not cover Cocoa or other higher-level frameworks, you will be fully prepared to do so by the time you finish it.
