About The Author

Tom Christiansen is a Perl trainer and writer who works as an independent consultant. He went to college after working for TSR Hobbies (of Dungeons and Dragons fame) for several years, spending a year in Spain and five in America dabbling in music, linguistics, programming, and a half-dozen various spoken languages. Tom eventually graduated from UW-Madison with a B.A. in Spanish and an M.S. in computer science.

He subsequently worked at Convex for five years as a jack-of-all-trades, doing everything from system administration to utility and kernel development, as well as customer service and training. Tom also served on the USENIX Association Board of Directors for two terms. Tom is an international speaker with over fifteen years of expertise in UNIX system administration and programming. Tom spends his summers hiking, hacking, birdwatching, making music, and gaming in the foothills above Boulder, Colorado, surrounded by mule deer, skunks, and the occasional mountain lion and black bear.
