About This Book:
The second edition has two additional chapters on optical fiber sensors and another on optical fiber networks. These additions with the materials of the first version provide a comprehensive treatment of optical fiber communication systems and their applications. The material is well presented and designed for graduate students pursuing courses in electrical engineering, and electronics and telecommunications engineering.
The book provides a fully up-to-date, accessible and in-depth introduction to the principles and applications of optical fiber communication. It describes recent developments in optical fiber communication materials, devices, components and systems. Coverage includes key concepts such as photon multiplexing using light, semiconductor materials, photon sources, optical receivers, LED and laser transmitters, optical homodyne and heterodyne detection systems, polarization penalty, affinity and loss in optical fibers, WDM and integrated optics Huh. Construction of long-term OFC links at 8 Mbps and 2.5 Gbps, optical fiber applications in LAN / WAN and CCTV, below sea communications and long-term optical fiber communications.
