Book Description – Introduction to Computing: Explorations in Language Logic and Machines

Introduction to Computing: Explorations in Language Logic and Machines – This book was required reading for my very first computer science class, and I found it really useful!! The principles are well-explained, and the book is written in an easy-to-read fashion. The information in this book follows a logical order, with the fundamentals taught first and more advanced ideas explained subsequently, with each notion building on the last. The utilization of several examples was the feature of this book that I found most beneficial. The concepts are explained in detail in theory, followed by specific examples that demonstrate how they can be applied. I was especially impressed by the range and amount of information provided in this book. Overall, this book is well-written, concise but thorough, and a fantastic method to learn computing principles!!

Computer science is the study of how to accurately define, forecast, and implement information processes. Using the Scheme and Python programming languages, this book covers the most important concepts in computing. It focuses on how to define procedures to describe information processes, how to estimate the costs associated with performing a procedure, and what can and cannot be computed mechanically.

About the Author

David Evans is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Virginia, where he does security and privacy research and offers courses on operating systems, introductory computer science, and cryptography applications. His cs101 course on Udacity is the world’s largest open course. “Evans is the kind of nerdy savant whose gap-tooth smile and Monty Python comedy draw a cult following on college,” according to Prospect Magazine. “Steht »Correct!« da, freue ich mich, fast, als hätte Professor Evans persönlich gratuliert,” Zeit writes.
