Book Description – Download Eloquent Ruby pdf

Download Eloquent Ruby pdf– Eloquent Ruby begins with a single line, method, test, or bug to address tactical questions. You’ll learn how to write Ruby-like code (rather than Java or C#), why Ruby has so many control structures, how to use strings, expressions, and symbols, and why dynamic typing is so useful.

The book then moves on to larger issues such as creating methods and classes. You’ll learn why Ruby classes have so many small methods, as well as when to utilize and when not to use operator overloading. Olsen explains how to develop Ruby code that generates its own code, as well as why you should. He wraps up with a list of project-level features and strategies that include everything from gems to Domain-Specific Languages.

This book nailed it; it’s a quick read with a lot of useful technical information. This book does not provide an introduction to Ruby; rather, it teaches you how to write elegant Ruby, presuming you already know how to program. The technical knowledge is given in a straightforward and concise manner, with just enough detail to make the point and nothing more. The tone of the author is lighthearted without being cloyingly jocular. The book is unique among tutorials in that it focuses on teaching Ruby that is not just “correct,” but also “idiomatic.”

About the Author

Russ Olsen has worked on everything from graphics device drivers to document management software over the course of his three-decade career. He now works on solutions for GIS, online service security, and process automation. He spends the majority of his spare time writing and speaking about programming, particularly Ruby and Clojure. His debut book, Design Patterns In Ruby, was well-received (Addison-Wesley, 2007). He’s also the shadowy figure behind the Technology.
